Broward County Court Judge Mary Rudd Robinson collapsed while presiding over a trial and remained hospitalized today, according to courthouse sources.

Her condition is unknown but considered very serious.

“We don’t know at this time,” Stacy McMenemy, judicial assistant to Chief Circuit Judge Peter Weinstein, said of Robinson’s status. “All we do know is that she is in the hospital.”

Sources said Robinson slumped over at about 5 p.m. Wednesday. A medical examiner happened to be in the courtroom and helped bailiffs operate a defibrillator in an effort to revive her. A heart attack was initially suspected but not confirmed.

Robinson, who was assigned to the criminal division, was appointed to the bench in 1989 by Gov. Bob Martinez.

The wife of Broward Circuit Judge Michael Robinson was most recently re-elected in 2010.
