The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has a new general counsel, Karla Gilbride, who last year became the first blind person to argue a case before the U.S. Supreme Court and will be the commission’s first blind GC.

The Senate on Tuesday confirmed her appointment almost completely along party lines. The post had been vacant since March 2021, when President Joe Biden fired Donald Trump’s appointee to the post, Sharon Gustafson.
