Each year Gartner releases our updated Hype Cycle tool for clients to track the full array of legal and compliance technologies available to in-house legal departments, from innovative, emerging technologies to those that have matured and are ready for full adoption.

This year, legal departments report disillusionment with a wide array of nascent innovations ranging from legal analytics to privacy impact assessments. This situation is far from unusual, as new innovations that promise transformative leaps typically suffer from a crashing of sentiment as end users fall prey to [excessive] hype in the market. It takes time, as vendors work out the ‘kinks’ in their solutions and end users pressure-test the reliable use cases, before a given innovation can reach full maturity and widescale adoption.
