AT&T will pay $6.25 million to settle Securities and Exchange Commission charges that three of its executives in 2016 leaked internal smartphone sales data to Wall Street analysts to avoid falling short of revenue forecasts.

It was the largest-ever penalty a case alleging a violation of the agency’s fair-disclosure rule, which bars selective sharing of ”material nonpublic information” to market professionals and shareholders.
