The U.S. Supreme Court handed Shapiro, Singer, and their client Mayo Collaborative Services a landmark win this week when the justices unanimously threw out Prometheus's patents for a method of determining how certain drugs are metabolized within the body, finding that the patents "claim the underlying laws of nature themselves" and therefore must be deemed invalid.
