Duane Morris has hired a Southeast Asia-focused corporate partner in Singapore.

Gerard Hekker joins from Sidley Austin, where he had been a partner advising on corporate transactions with an emphasis on Indonesia-related deals. In 2015, he advised Indonesian telecom tower company PT Solusi Tunas Pratama Tbk on a $300 million senior notes issue . In 2014, he represented Jakarta, Indonesia-based telecom carrier PT XL Axiata Tbk on an $865 million acquisition of rival PT Axis Telekom Indonesia .

Based in Singapore, Hekker will be a partner at Duane Morris’ San Francisco office as well as a director at the Philadelphia-based firm’s Singapore joint venture Duane Morris & Selvam .

Hekker had been a partner with Sidley since 2013, having joined the firm in Singapore two years earlier from Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. He practiced at Skadden for over a decade in Singapore.

Duane Morris first launched in Singapore in 2007 and formed a joint law venture with veteran Singaporean lawyer Arfat Selvam’s firm in 2011. The joint venture firm Duane Morris & Selvam went on to open several regional offices, including in Yangon, Myanmar , in 2013, in Shanghai in 2014 and in Taipei , Taiwan last year.

In January, Duane Morris & Selvam also hired corporate lawyer Mark Wong as a director from Singaporean firm Rajah & Tann.
