K&L Gates has rehired a former partner in Taipei.
Jim Wu has most recently worked as a consultant to and private investor in a series of small companies in Asia and Silicon Valley. At K&L Gates, Wu will advise on mergers and acquisitions, investments and strategic partnerships, with a focus on technology companies, venture capital deals and private equity investors.
He will divide his time between K&L Gates’ Palo Alto and Taipei offices.
Between 1999 and 2002 and again between 2004 and 2005, Wu held a series of positions with Yahoo Inc. in both California and Taiwan, including vice president for international M&A, director of corporate development for North Asia and Asia Pacific general counsel. From 2005 to 2007, he served as general counsel and vice president of corporate development for the former Openwave Systems Inc., a mobile software company.
Wu also had two prior stints at the former Preston Gates & Ellis, which merged with Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Nicholson Graham to form K&L Gates in 2007. He worked at the firm as an associate from 1997 to 1999 and returned as partner between 2002 and 2004, when he launched and served as head of the firm’s Taipei office. He began his legal career at the now-defunct Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison in 1993.
K&L Gates now has 16 lawyers, including eight partners, in Taipei. The firm employs more than 2,000 lawyers in 48 cities worldwide.*
