Washington became the second state to offer alternative pathways to the bar on Friday, with the Washington Supreme Court ruling to adopt six alternatives proposed by the Washington Bar Licensure Task Force.

The court ruled to adopt recommendations two through six of WBLTF’s proposal, which include graduate apprenticeships, law school experiential pathways, APR 6 apprenticeships, alternative assessments and interventions, and reciprocity. According to the opinion, the executive director of the Washington State Bar Association is now tasked with convening and supporting an implementation committee to propose rule changes and identify next steps necessary to implement the recommendations.
