“One major thing is that this past year started out very well in person with our annual meeting, and it continued very well with a combination of in-person and remote meetings,” Alexander told Law.com in a Dec. 27 interview, adding that he had a chance to talk individually to people and collectively as president about the importance of defending democracy and getting folks to think about that and how to play a role in that.

In 2023, there have been numerous virtual and in-person meetings on defending democracy, as well as a conference in July after the U.S. Supreme Court decision on affirmative action, “exploring the immediate outcome of that decision, and not just the meaning of the abstract legal theory, but the meaning of the concrete, practical implications for law schools as they move forward,” Alexander said.
