The NextGen bar exam is a work in the progress as the National Conference of Bar Examiners prepares to have the exam ready for its July 2026 launch. Amidst ongoing changes to the test and process, five jurisdictions have now announced plans to adopt the new exam.

Maryland, Missouri and Oregon bar admission agencies have announced their intention to begin using NextGen in July 2026; Wyoming intends to first administer the exam in July 2027; and Connecticut has not yet finalized its first administration date, according to NCBE’s announcement.
