When Elizabeth Castillo joined Cotchett, Pitre & McCarthy in 2012, her first court hearing in a multidistrict litigation docket over auto parts had nearly 140 lawyers in the room—and the majority were old, white men.

“That was the primary demographic at the time,” she said. “It still is, but, over the years, I’ve seen definitely more women, more people of color, and, of course, younger people who are getting more opportunities to argue. It’s definitely visible from the court appearances I’ve made.”
