Connecticut Medical Malpractice: A Manual of Practice and Procedure is the go-to legal reference for Connecticut medical malpractice litigators and serves both the defense and plaintiff bars. Covering medical malpractice law, medical negligence, and healthcare liability, the book is authored by Hartford area attorneys Joyce Lagnese, Calum Anderson, and Frank Santoro of DanaherLagnese PC. This new edition adds contributors Stuart C. Johnson and Thomas J. Plumridge, who are principals of the firm.

“This thoroughly researched, well-balanced and comprehensive treatise needs to be in every lawyer's library if their practice area includes the complex and ever-changing law of medical malpractice.”

—James D. Bartolini, Esq.

Topics cover standard of care, causation, damages, and opinion letters, along with informed consent, statute of limitations, expert testimony, hospital liability, evidentiary and trial management issues, privileges, immunities, and disclosure of patient information.

The 2025 edition features these updates:

  • Detailed review of significant changes affecting motions to dismiss under General Statutes § 52-190a following the Connecticut Supreme Court's landmark Carpenter v. Daar decision impacting Connecticut medical malpractice and certificate of good faith standards
  • In-depth analysis of recent Connecticut Supreme Court rulings declining loss of filial consortium claims and addressing “wrongful life” claims, with direct implications for medical malpractice law, medical negligence damages, and evolving healthcare liability standards
  • Expanded discussion of privileges and immunities in medical malpractice litigation, including analysis of how courts have interpreted Executive Order 7V immunity provisions related to hospital negligence and doctor negligence during the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Examination of developing Connecticut medical malpractice law involving claims against the State, insurer duties to defend and indemnify, discovery disputes involving metadata, audit trails, and emerging issues in complex medical malpractice claims
