Be it earthquake, wildfire, flood, extreme summer and winter weather or tornado, most Americans report being ready to face emergencies, with just 12% saying they are unprepared for any of the previously mentioned events, according to a survey by ValuePenguin.com.

When it comes to weather-driven events, most feel confident in their ability to respond to extreme heat and winter storms. Fewer than half of the survey respondents said the same for wildfires and earthquakes, the latter of which is the emergency people feel the least ready for.

While most feel prepared, the survey revealed that many are overlooking some critical factors to emergency preparedness. For example, although slightly more than 60% of consumers said they can ensure the safety of their home and family in the event of a flood, less than 20% know for certain that they have an insurance policy that would respond to such an event, according to ValuePenguin.
