Fierce competition for talent and concerns over succession planning are leading to big challenges for small law firms—and lately some of their dissolutions.

In recent months, several small law firms in and around the capital region have dissolved, merged or been acquired by larger law firms. The driving forces, sources say, include smaller firms grappling with more administrative burdens, aging partners and recruiting younger talent from the same pool as Big Law firms.
