After polling partners on how the firm should respond to competitive market dynamics, leaders at Weil, Gotshal & Manges unveiled a revised pay system for equity partners that emphasizes the expansion of client relationships, the firm’s executive partner confirmed in an interview Tuesday.

This change, along with the early-stage plans for leadership succession, results from interviews with partners in 2023, in which a five-person subcommittee of the firm’s 19-person management committee solicited input for how the firm should respond to changing market dynamics, said executive partner and management committee chair Barry Wolf.
