Sure, many of the names are familiar, but the numbers show how far law firms have come since our first survey in 1978. Thirty-five surveys later, firms with thousands of lawyer rule our chart. In our initial list, no firm topped 500 attorneys, and only one had more than 300. The following list includes our initial top 50 (truncated from the original list of 200 firms) and data on where they stand in 2012.
