Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal released a statement on Wednesday confirming that the firm has carried out additional layoffs, but a firm spokeswoman declined to say how many positions were eliminated. The move follows two previous rounds of cuts within the past year and a half.
"As every business is doing, we continue to review ways to align our capacity with demand in these weaker areas," Sonnenschein said in a statement to Above the Law. "Where we can, we transfer resources. When we cannot, we must make prudent business decisions that unfortunately affect some very good people. While we are not alone in our professional services industry in so doing, it is never easy to make these calls."
Above the Law reports that less than two dozen associates were cut as a part of the firm's latest moves. When contacted by the Am Law Daily, a Sonnenschein spokeswoman would not confirm ATL's number and said the firm would have no further comment beyond the statement provided to Above the Law.
As previously reported, Sonnenschein cut 37 lawyers in May 2008. The National Law Journal reported last October that the firm had laid off 25 attorneys.
