A federal panel issued an order Monday consolidating Chinese drywall liability lawsuits before a New Orleans judge. Plaintiffs attorneys say drywall made by Knauf Plasterboard in at least two of its Chinese plants emits sulphur gas that corrodes wiring and ruins appliances. Some homeowners also claim they have been forced to leave their homes because of breathing difficulty. One attorney estimates there could end up being 1,000 suits nationwide by people who bought homes built with Chinese drywall since 2005.
