Despite the economic downturn, attorney billing rates continued their escalation trend in 2008, with nearly 71 percent of law firms reporting an increase in the amount that they charged clients compared with 2007. Also this year, partner billing rates broke record highs. In another key finding, The National Law Journal's annual billing survey showed that alternative and variant billing systems were popular among many law firms.
