Loeb & Loeb has cut eight associates from various practice areas.
The law firm confirmed the move in a written statement on Monday, which said the downsizing was part of Loeb & Loeb's "periodic attorney evaluation process and assessment of its overall personnel needs in its various practice areas."
Associate layoffs have become increasingly common of late, which some firms are blaming on the slow economy. Others have said their cuts are performance-related.
The associates let go from Loeb & Loeb will receive a "standard severance package" that depends on their length of service, according to the firm's statement.
The firm is continuing to hire and expects to end 2008 with more attorneys than it began the year with, the statement said.
With its largest office in New York, Loeb & Loeb has 310 attorneys, about half of whom are associates.
