Earlier this month, a federal jury awarded TiVo nearly $74 million after finding that EchoStar, the parent company of the DISH Network satellite TV provider, had infringed on TiVo's "multimedia time warping system." However, acting on a request filed last year by EchoStar, the USPTO has now ordered a re-examination of TiVo's patent -- a strategy that attorneys say is becoming increasingly common. TiVo's general counsel, Matthew Zinn, says he isn't concerned.
