Michael A. Watson, who was promoted last year to first vice president and deputy general counsel at insurance giant New York Life, has resigned due to the company's discovery that he wasn't licensed to practice law. Watson, 44, graduated from Columbia School of Law, and worked at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy and also Hunton & Williams before joining New York Life in 1996. A New York Life spokesperson said Tuesday it was "difficult to know why this wasn't picked up."
