Four years ago Marvell Semiconductor general counsel Matthew Gloss and two colleagues phoned the legal chief of rival Jasmine Networks. The call went to voicemail, so Gloss left a message and hung up. Or he thought he did. It turns out the voicemail was still taping the Marvell officials as they talked on speakerphone -- allegedly about how they were stealing their rival's trade secrets. The incident has turned into a major headache, not just for Marvell, but potentially for in-house lawyers everywhere.
