Although the U.S. Judicial Conference voted to make federal criminal case files more widely available electronically, it also adopted rules for keeping out personal information that traditionally has been contained in case files. The new rules, intended to prevent identity theft and other criminal use of data, will require attorneys to delete certain personal data from both paper and electronic filings.
