The approach and even the personality of a general counsel can be pivotal in whether a company can resolve a regulatory issue, Australia’s finance industry regulator told delegates at the the 9th Annual General Counsel Summit in Sydney on Monday, August 7, 2023. 

In a keynote address, Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC) deputy chair Sarah Court said that from time to time she tries to engage directly with a company through its general counsel rather than via ASIC’s external lawyers.
