In the three and a half decades since Danny Gilbert left a leading Australian law firm to set up Gilbert + Tobin in 1988 with fellow lawyer Tony Tobin, the upstart firm has pushed its way into the top tier of Australian independent corporate law firms, joining larger firms whose pedigrees date back more than 100 years.

The firm that bears Gilbert’s name (Tobin and Gilbert flipped a coin to decide whose surname would go first in the new firm’s title) now has offices across the country—in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. It has 106 partners and more than 440 other lawyers. Its clients include top international corporations from a variety of industries.
