California’s Commission on Judicial Appointments on Tuesday confirmed two new appellate justices and approved the elevation of a third as Gov. Gavin Newsom continues to stock the courts of appeal.

Associate Justice Gonzalo Martinez, confirmed to the Second District Court of Appeal’s Division Seven less than a year ago, will now serve as that division’s presiding justice. It’s the latest stop for Martinez in a fast-rising career that has included stints as a partner in the appellate and Supreme Court practice group at Squire Patton Boggs, a deputy solicitor general in the California Attorney General’s Office and judicial appointments secretary for Newsom.
