The “golden parachute” payouts that Activision Blizzard executives could receive in connection with its sale to Microsoft, including the $14.8 million potentially due Chief Legal Officer Grant Dixton, are garnering criticism, most notably from shareholders who say the severance packages prove the deal benefits Activision leaders more than its investors.

Six top Activision executives collectively could receive golden parachutes topping $97 million, according to a recent U.S.Securities and Exchange Commission filing. The payments—in the form of cash, stock and other benefits—are triggered if the executives are forced to leave or decide to leave because they’ve had their responsibilities cut.
