Venue Change Slows Texas AG's Push to Depose Tobacco Five
Texas Attorney General John Cornyn's effort to depose the five plaintiffs' lawyers who sued tobacco companies for Texas got a bit more complicated last week when a judge ruled that three of the five have the right to be deposed where they live, rather than in Houston. Cornyn wants to depose them for his long-running investigation into how the five acquired the tobacco suit, which ended with a $17.3 billion settlement.New Partners For 2010: Numbers Down at Most Large Firms in Texas
The largest firms in Texas promoted 69 lawyers to partner or shareholder for 2010, the third year in a row that the firms promoted fewer new partners and shareholders in the Lone Star State.
