A longshoreman who suffered a fractured pelvis and internal injuries when he was hit by a truck at the Port of Elizabeth received $2 million to settle his Essex County suit, Etta v. Mora-Briones, on Dec. 23.

On Feb. 19, 2020, Simeon Etta, then 41, whose duties include tracking down shipping containers throughout the terminal and uploading their locations on a handheld device, was searching for a specific numbered container when he was struck by the trailer of a truck operated by Daniel Mora-Briones. Etta was struck by a tire on the right rear of the truck’s trailer, which then ran over his mid-section, said his lawyer, Peter Chamas of Gill & Chamas in Woodbridge.
