A bill that would allow New Yorkers to consummate lawsuits against landlords who discontinue rental arrangements without good cause continues to weigh heavily on legislative budget negotiations in Albany.

The Legal Aid Society, which helped draft the bill, expressed concern about discussion of Gov. Kathy Hochul reportedly pushing lawmakers to reduce the Good Cause Eviction bill, in exchange for rollbacks to major rent stabilization reforms under the 2019 Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act.
