Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron currently sits on the most high-profile case in the country; it’s the civil case brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James to basically strip former President Donald Trump and his two sons of the Trump Organization businesses and bar them from future business in New York because of alleged pervasive fraud.

Trump, apparently, is laser focused on this case. It cuts at the heart of his cultivated image as a self-made billionaire. He is attending much of the trial and animatedly testifying without taking the Fifth Amendment, even in the face of the four criminal indictments he currently faces in Washington, Florida, Georgia and New York. He is using this case as a platform to curry favor with his political base by characterizing himself as a victim of a left-wing attack. He has chosen as his bogeymen the judge in the case, Engoron, and James.
