It didn’t take long before the high hopes the world had for artificial intelligence and its ability to streamline decision-making processes—especially in hiring decisions—were met with evidence of potential bias outcomes.

In the U.S., regulators are now paying growing attention to algorithmic decision-making, though one of the most concrete forms of regulation at this point would be New York City’s Local Law 144, which is set to take effect next month. The law will require companies that use AI to screen job candidates to subject their tools to annual bias audits.
