When I became a journalist, back when karaoke nights sharing microphones in tiny booths with no air-flow felt totally normal, corporate law seemed like a bit of a mythical beast. Figures discussed in the office about deal worth and salary packages seemed astronomical to me: nowadays, my eyebrows only tend to raise once a year when Milbank gets out its chequebook.
But in the past seven years I’ve learned something important: most lawyers are also just normal people, with normal wishes when it comes to their working environment.
