I am seeing more and more resumes with multiple employers over a short span of time.  I’m not talking about situations where companies merge, law firms change names, or the candidate is doing assignment-based work.  None of that is job hopping.

I’m talking about multiple direct hire positions with completely different employers.  I recently interviewed a 2010 JD graduate with six employers since graduation.  Each move was logically explained.  The reasons included moving geographically for family, and two “step up” opportunities for better titles and more money.  This attorney has terrific academics and excellent interviewing skills.
