While lawyers and other BlackBerry users prepare for a possible shutdown of service, attorneys at Atlanta-based McKenna Long & Aldridge are defending the patent case for the device’s maker, Research In Motion.

The McKenna team is led by Gordon D. Giffin, who met one of RIM’s founders while he was U.S. ambassador to Canada from 1997 to 2001. RIM is based in Waterloo, Ontario.
