Last week’s $1.56 billion Roundup verdict was the fourth in a row against Bayer’s Monsanto, but there were many factors that set the trial apart from the others.

For one thing, the co-lead plaintiffs’ lawyers in the trial were a pair of ex-Baker McKenzie patent attorneys who founded a civil litigation firm three years ago. For another, the trial was the first in Jefferson City, the capital of Missouri.
