SAN FRANCISCO — A federal district judge in San Francisco has ruled that Google Inc. must turn over emails stored on its overseas servers to U.S. law enforcement, marking another loss in tech companies’ battle over the limits of the Stored Communications Act (SCA).
In an order issued Monday afternoon, U.S. District Judge Richard Seeborg of the Northern District of California ruled Google’s compliance with a warrant issued under the SCA for the emails does not amount to an “extraterritorial” application of the law that would be impermissible.
