SAN FRANCISCO—The legal team for Raymond “Shrimp Boy” Chow, led by J. Tony Serra, has asked to withdraw from his defense, citing “irreconcilable differences” with the convicted Chinatown gang leader.
Serra and his co-counsel, Curtis Briggs and Tyler Smith, filed court papers Monday claiming that it is “impossible” to continue representing Chow after “confidential communications” with him led to the current conflict. The brief, two-page motion, is scant on details about the rift between Chow and his lawyers, but said that Chow has consented to the withdrawal and is willing to be questioned about the differences in camera, under seal, by U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer.
