SAN FRANCISCO — A year after reviving Oracle Corp.’s copyright claims against Google Inc. over Java technology, the Federal Circuit has breathed new life into one of Oracle’s patents too.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled Friday that the Patent Trial and Appeal Board erred when it invalidated Oracle patent claims on speeding up the execution of source code on a virtual machine. The claims were originally part of Oracle’s massive 2010 intellectual property case against Google—now awaiting a U.S. Supreme Court cert decision—but were set aside for re-examination at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
