As a licensed contractor and architect, Thiel has been involved in all phases of the design and construction of residential and commercial projects. He developed an expertise in copyright, trademark and trade secret issues specific to the construction industry as a partner at Jones Day.

Retired Santa Clara County Judge Kevin McKenney has joined the panel of JAMS Silicon Valley Resolution Center. He will serve as an arbitrator, mediator and special master in construction defect, employment, family law, insurance, intellectual property, personal injury/torts, professional liability and real property.

Greenberg Traurig has added Tom Ara and Robert Sherman as partners in the entertainment and media practice in the firm’s Los Angeles office. Los Angeles-based insurance coverage law firm Nelsen, Thompson, Pegue & Thornton has named attorney Malena Dobal as partner. Dobal represents insurance companies in insurance coverage, bad-faith and subrogation matters.

Allen Matkins has elected attorneys Josh del Castillo, Marissa Dennis, Crystal Lofing and Erin Murphy to firm partnership. Del Castillo, Dennis and Murphy are based in Los Angeles and Lofing is based in Century City.

Fox Rothschild has elevated intellectual property entertainment lawyer Julian Petty and intellectual property litigation attorney Lena Bacani to partner in the firm’s Los Angeles office.

Santa Clara University School of Law has named assistant professor Brian Love as codirector of the school’s High Tech Law Institute. Love, an intellectual property and patent law expert, will share the role with Eric Goldman. See story online.
