SAN FRANCISCO — Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher has poached a corporate partner from the San Francisco office of Ropes & Gray.
Ryan Murr rejoins Gibson Dunn, where he began his legal career as an associate, after three years at Ropes & Gray. He had been managing partner of the S.F. office. “It feels in a sense like a reunion,” Murr said.
Murr has been named cochairman of the firm’s life sciences group, a role that will enable him to “help direct at a strategic level how that practice grows and evolves over time,” he said.
He’ll continue to represent companies and investors in the technology and life sciences industries, advising on securities offerings, mergers, corporate governance and other issues. Murr said Gibson Dunn could provide an “even greater level of support for clients on the tech side.”
Murr joined Gibson Dunn initially in 1998. He then spent seven years at Heller Ehrman and moved on to Goodwin Procter, where he spent four years as partner.
Mary Murphy, partner in charge of Gibson Dunn’s San Francisco office, said in a statement that the firm was “delighted” to bring Murr aboard. “He is a strategic thinker who is very well regarded for blending his deep knowledge of his clients’ businesses and the industries in which they operate with legal acumen to offer incisive and creative solutions,” she said.
