SACRAMENTO – State lawmakers are diving into the data-breach controversy. The Assembly judiciary and banking committees have announced a joint hearing Feb. 18 at the Capitol to discuss consumer data security after the recent high-profile attacks on Target and Neiman Marcus.

“The hearing will aim to uncover how the recent invasive data breaches occurred and how we can proactively protect Californians from attacks on their personal information,” Banking Committee Chairman Roger Dickinson, D-Sacramento, said in a prepared statement. “We must find a reasonable way to increase consumer privacy, ensure appropriate fraud and identity theft protection, and safeguard against the exploitation of personal information.”
