Q: What do you like best about being a judge?

A: I tried 60-some odd cases in my life, and even though I’m doing civil trials, and most of my trials were civil, it seems like every time I take on a new case or almost every time, it’s a new subject matter. I have a case on the Lanham Act coming up for next week. I’ve had cases about various injunctions, all kinds of medical malpractice. I just finished — although it was tragic because the plaintiff died in the middle — an asbestos case. I’ve had all manner of different cases. Easements. Fights about rent. It’s sort of endless, but each one of them is a learning experience. So to some degree it’s like being in law school again.
