SAN FRANCISCO — Silicon Valley has a handful of go-to players and a long list of hopefuls. Moving from one camp to the other is easier for the lawyers than their firms.

Nine corporate lawyers made that point over the past two months in leaving Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton for Cooley. The departures deal a blow to Sheppard’s corporate practice in the Valley, legal watchers say.
