SAN FRANCISCO Plaintiffs lawyers across the country are watching closely as a Los Angeles jury deliberates in a case against Johnson & Johnson over a faulty hip implant, the first case to go to trial in an avalanche of litigation that the company is facing over its controversial metal-on-metal device.
San Francisco’s Walkup, Melodia, Kelly & Schoenberger, San Diego’s The Gomez Law Firm and Los Angeles’ Panish Shea & Boyle are serving as co-counsel for plaintiff Loren Kransky, a retired prison guard who was outfitted with a ball-and-socket hip implant manufactured by Johnson & Johnson subsidiary DePuy Orthopaedics Inc. before it was recalled two years ago. New Brunswick, N.J.-based Johnson & Johnson has set aside almost $3 billion to cover the recall and resulting litigation and related issues, according to its financial disclosures.
