Donald Casper, a San Francisco attorney known for his active political and civic life, died Sunday after being hit by a truck while jogging. He was 63.

Casper hailed from an Italian-American family in North Beach. He was the son of former San Francisco Fire Chief Andrew Casper and Dorothy Casper, a member of the city library commission. Unlike his parents, however, Casper was a Republican, if a moderate one, according to long-time friend and law partner Richard Spotswood.
