Attorney General Rob Bonta on Monday called a proposed litigation fund to fight Donald Trump "an excellent start" but added that his office may need more money if the president-elect takes specific aim at California policies.

Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Monday morning that he will pursue legislation to give the Department of Justice and other state agencies up to $25 million "to defend California from unconstitutional overreach." The governor said he expects the funding authority bill to reach his desk for approval before Trump's inauguration on Jan. 20.
