A federal judge in California refused to dismiss lawsuits alleging social media sites like YouTube and Facebook caused young users to get addicted and develop mental health problems.

In a Tuesday ruling, U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers, in the Northern District of California, ruled that Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which grants immunity to tech companies from the actions of third parties, did not protect social media companies from claims involving a host of specific elements.
