The 150 employees laid off at Cooley last week could at least count on severance packages to cushion the blow of losing their jobs. But the three months of pay for associates falls short of Big Law packages from past recessions, while a baseline of one month for staffers pales in comparison to the multi-month payments doled out to redundant workers at the firm’s Big Tech clients.
